Jan 7, 2009 (newstodate): The Danish carrier DAT has now readied its MD-87 aircraft for production, aiming at providing ad-hoc charter and ACMI services to the European aviation market.
The aircraft has been acquired through DAT's leasing arm, and DAT received its MD-87 AOC on December 23, 2008.
-Our business model is providing flexibility to operators that need extra ad-hoc capacity, and this is a strong asset in times when many airlines have grounded part of their own aircraft fleets to adjust to decreasing market demands, says Ole Christiansen, DAT VP sales.
-As DAT's first jet aircraft, the MD-87 is ideally suited to this purpose, being relatively inexpensive on the ground and relatively expensive in the air due to rather high fuel consumption. The first contracts have already been signed, and we are now embarking on a major marketing effort among European airlines, says Mr Christiansen.
