Jan 21, 2009 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo is still not decided on the future of its cargo sales in the Danish market.
-We currently serve the Danish market through the Stockholm call centre. I would hope to be able to say something regarding a GSA within the next month, says Mike Horsley, BAWC Area Commercial Manager North West Europe.
For years, BAWC cargo sales in the Danish market have been vacillating between GSA solutions and own sales.
On August 31, 2004, BAWC terminated its contract with Maersk Air Cargo and transferred cargo sales in Denmark to be handled from BAWC's office at Gothenburg, Sweden.
BAWC cargo sales in Denmark were next contracted to the Danish cargo GSA, ProActive Airline Services from July 1, 2006.
The GSA, however, abrogated the contract from March 1, 2008, and since then BAWC sales in Denmark have been handled by BAWC's call-centre at Stockholm, Sweden.
-This is a temporary arrangement until we set up an agreement with a new GSA, Mr Horsley told newstodate on February 27, 2008.
ProActive Airlines Services also offered its explanation for its unusual decision to call off the contract with British Airways World Cargo: -To our experience, limitations and lack of flexibility on the side of BAWC (have) proved detrimental to our efforts to secure the carrier's position in the Danish air cargo market, Bo Seidelin, ProActive Airline Services' general manager, told newstodate on February 22, 2008.
On an average, BAWC derives some 60 percent of its cargo volumes in the Swedish market, Norway contritubes some 35 percent, and the Danish and Finnish cargo markets share the remaining five percent of the volumes.
BAWC now handles cargo sales in Sweden, Norway and Denmark from its call centre in Stockholm, while the Finnish air cargo market its handled by its cargo GSA, Airline Services.
