Sep 12, 2008 (newstodate): Ukraine sees the market demand for air travels to the USA incraesing, but traffic is limited by the country's Category 2-status since 2005.
The new U.S.-Ukraine Council on Trade and Investment, set up after the US president's visit to the country this year, will put the issue on top of its agenda and seek ways to speed up the process by Ukraine to solve the outstanding problems with air safety, to regain the country's Cat 1 status in FAA's audits.
With the Cat 1 status, AeroSvit would be allowed to increase its traffic to the US with higher frequencies and new destinations.
Hopes are to up frequency to New York and add Chicago as a new destination.
The coveted Cat 1 status would also enable other Ukrainean carriers to introduce NOrth American flights.
