Sep 5, 2008 (newstodate): Consolidation in Russia's airline industry will take a major step forward with the formation of a new airline conglomerate.
Together with the state corporation Rostekhnologi, the governments of Moscow and Krasnoyarsk have issued a joint statement to announce their decision to unite the airlines Atlant-Soyuz, owned by Moscow City Government, AiRUnion, comprising member airlines KrasAir, Domodedovo Airlines, Omskavia, Samara Airlines and Sibaviatrans, Kavminvodyavia, based at Mineralnye Vody in the Caucasus, Orenburg airlines, based at Orenburg, Saratov Airlines, based at Saratov, and Vladivostok Air, based at Vladivostok.
The proposed merged mega-carrier will have its hubs at Moscow Vnukovo Airport and Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport, and provide both domestic and international flights.
