Sep 11, 2008 (newstodate): The Russian government may decide to abolish the import tax on western mid-range commercial aircraft like Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
The initiative calls for abolishing import tax on aircraft with between 50 and 300 seats, provided they are leased through the state-owned United Aircraft Construction Corporation.
And one more condition will apply: as soon as the production of Russian-built aircraft in this category, like the Superjet 100, gains momentum and proves capable of meeting Russia's market demands, the carriers will be obliged to replace their imported aircraft with Russian counterparts.
The move is seen as a means to spur growth in productivity by Russia's aircraft manufacturing industry.
