Sep 24, 2008 (newstodate): The Hungarian authorities have now given the green light for the construction of Alba Airport, 60 kilometres from Budapest.
Behind the plans are Hungarian estate company Biggeorge's and the local municipality of Szekesfehervar.
Situated on the premises of a former AFB, Alba Airport is expected to become operative from the middle of 2010, aiming at charter and low-cost airline operations as a cost-efficient alternative to Budapest Ferihegy International Aiport.
The current plans build on visions by a former JV set up in 2004 between the now-defunct English investor Plain Station and Szekesfehervar Airport Development and Operation Company.
