Sep 18, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's first and so far only LCC, Sky Express has seen no knock-on effect of Air Union coming to Moscow Vnukovo Airport and continues to soar in passenger volumes.
The now former head of Russia's Rosaviatsia, Mr. Bachurin gave the airline two weeks to get its debt to Vnikovo under control, otherwise threatening to revoke its AOC, but the alleged debts were effectively denied by both Sky Express and Vnukovo Airport, and nothing has been heard of the issue since then.
-Sky Express is taking delivery of its 10th aircraft shortly and looks forward to continued growth over the next months and years, bringing the Low Cost model to the Russian market, says an airline company executive.
According to Vnukovo Airport, Sky Express ranks 3rd in volumes, generating 710,500 passengers on eleven routes from Vnukovo during January-August this year, which corresponds to 13.2 percent of the airport's total passenger volume.
Moscow Vnukovo Airport expects Sky Express to expand its route network at the airport to 15 destinations in 2009.
