Sep 9, 2008 (newstodate): Israel will soon designate a second carrier for Russian routes where passenger volumes are soaring.
The market demand is expected to rise further as the countries abolish, from September 19, 2008, visa requirements for travels between Israel and Russia.
During the first six months of 2008, the traffic volumes have already exceed last year's total of 130,000 Russian passengers travelling to Israel.
Today, only El Al has been designated carrier on the routes to Russia, while the bilateral agreement between Israel and Russia provides for the operation of four regular carriers.
El Al currently operates two daily flights to Moscow and St Petersburg.
