Sep 2, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is continuously assessing developments at Russia's Krasnoyarsk Airport, to decide on a move of its Central Asian freighter hub from today's Astana in Kazakhtan.
-Test flights since summer 2008 have performed quite well so far, says Nils Haupt, Lufthansa Cargo VP Corporate Communications.
-We are currently assessing the conditions under which the use of a Siberian intermediate landing point would be possible. While some technical conditions are currently not met, Siberian airports are confirming to us that upgrades will be implemented.
-If this is the case, it is not unlikely that we will eventually transfer our intermediate landings to the Siberian airport. A short-term shift of Lufthansa Cargo's operations is impossible. Should all conditions be met, then this should not take place before 2009, says Mr Haupt.
