Sep 18, 2008 (newstodate): After a tender process, the Canadian engineering company SNC-Lavalin has been contracted to expand Libya's second largest airport.
The project for Benina International Airport, at Benghazi, comprises the construction of a new international terminal designed by Aeroports de Paris Engineering, a new runway and apron, as part of a national infrastructure programme by the government of Libya.
The new terminal is planned to become operational by 2010.
Benina International Airport now has two parallel 3,576 m runways.
