Sep 22, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's Bykovo Airport, in the Moscow region, will be developed into a new international airport.
Formerly belonging to the Russian ministry of transport, Bykovo Airport has now been transferred to Moscow Province that will develop the airport to attain international status from 2012.
Thie will require construction of a new runway to replace the exising 1,400 m runway, and new passenger facilities as well as enhanced infrastructure.
The smallest of five airports in the Moscow region, Bykovo Airport now handles only non-scheduled short-haul domestic flights.
