Aug 29, 2008 (newstodate): Work has now started on projects to modernise and expand Ukraine's Kiev Zhuliany Airport.
Included in the project is a runway extension from 1,800 to 2,160 m, new taxiways, a new apron and aircraft parking stands, and the construction of new passenger terminal and removal of the existing one.
With its current runway, the airport has only been capable of handling aircraf the size of YAK-40, YAK-42 and AN-24.
After the completion of the projects, the airport can handle aircraft including Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
