Aug 20, 2008 (newstodate): TNT's decision to move its freighter traffic from Sweden's Orebro Airport is a set-back for the airport's plans for cargo growth.
-We did indeed foresee another record year of cargo tonnage at Orebro Airport, but even with the loss of TNT freighter operations we will probably still manage to keep last year's levels of around 25,000 tonnes, says Haakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport cargo manager.
-TNT still has its handling terminal here where shipments are palletised so volume-wise the change is not that significant, while we will of course lose income in landing charges.
-So far into 2008 we have had some 100 ad-hoc charters, and while the number has not increased, the size of the freighter aircraft has as we have seen more than 50 operations with large freighters like Boeing 747 and AN-124 aircraft.
-With the loss of TNT freighter traffic we do not now have any scheduled freighter services, however, and it will thus be a strategic aim for us to attract a new regular cargo airline, says Mr Nilsson.
