Aug 18, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's Sochi Adler Airport recorded a strong growth in cargo volumes during January-June, 2008.
Total volumes were up by no less than 41.9 percent, to 1,154 tonnes.
After being privatised in November 2006, transferring ownership from state to Sochi city government, the airport has started the extension of its 2,200 m runway by 510 meter, allowing it to handle large aircraft such as Boeing 747 and IL-96-300.
The construction works are slated to be completed before the end of this year.
