Aug 7, 2008 (newstodate): During this year's first half, Russian carrier Ural Airlines, based at Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport, saw its cargo volumes rising seven percent.
In total the carrier handled 2,626 tonnes of cargo during the period, in addition to 315 tonnes of mail that increased by 17 percent.
In June 2008 alone, Ural Airlines handled 384 tonnes of cargo and 55 tonnes of mail.
The carrier is building a fleet of western aircraft, including four Airbus A320 aircraft, to expand its capacity and replace its fleet of ageing Soviet-built aircraft.
In December, 2007, the carrier signed a contract with Airbus for acquisition of seven new Airbus A320 aircraft, with delivery of five units in 2012 and the remaining two by April, 2014.
