Aug 27, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's Ministry of Transportation has decided to expand the airport of Vladikavkaz, near Beslan in North Ossetia.
The Russia state will fund the construction of a new runway, to replace the airport's current 3,000 m runway that will instead be converted into a taxiway.
New arcraft parking stands will be built, and construction of a new passenger terminal is also under consideration.
Design work will start this year, and construction is planned to begin by 2010.
The airport is currently used only by small and medium-sized aircraft, with routes operated by S7 and VIM Airlines.
