Aug 8, 2008 (newstodate): In July, Russian airlines operating AN-124-100 Ruslan freighers met with Russian and Ukrainean manufacturers and producers to the aircraft to assess the issue of sustained Ruslan operations.
The parties agreed that all conditions must be in place to gurantee the continued operational life of the Ruslan freighter up to 45,000 flight hours, 10,000 flights and 40 years of service.
The dicision also implies that component specifications will be updated and serial component production will be renewed.
The world's annual demand for over-size and mega-heavy air transportation is growing by 12 percent, driving the need for keeping the Ruslan fleet in the air.
The AN-124 Ruslan performed its first flight in 1982, and some 40 aircraft are currently airworthy, including military freighters.
