Aug 27, 2008 (newstodate): North Germany's Hamburg Airport has lowered its expectations for this year's cargo volumes.
After a decrease by 0.2 percent in volumes during the first half of this year, the airport now estimates to land at around four percent of full-year growth against 9.7 percent growth in 2007.
Hamburg Airport will thus handle around 88,000 tonnes of cargo in 2008, compared to 84,500 tonnes in 2007.
The drop in cargo volumes during H1, 2008, was due to a dramatic decline in transit cargo, down 68.7 percent to 793 tonnes after Emirates closed down its flight through Hamburg between Dubai and New York from Spring, 2008, now flying only directly between Hamburg and Dubai.
