Aug 20, 2008 (newstodate): During the first half of 2008, air cargo volumes were stagnating at Germany's Hamburg Airport.
The airport handled a total of 40,939 tonnes of cargo, down 0.2 percent, y-o-y.
During the same period, mail volumes declined by 46.9 percent to 1,677 tonnes.
The drop in cargo volumes was due to a dramatic decline in transit cargo, falling 68.7 percent to 793 tonnes after Emirates closed down its flight through Hamburg between Dubai and New York from Spring, 2008, now flying only between Hamburg and Dubai.
Trucked cargo remained the airport's main cargo business with 22,849 tonnes of cargo, increasing 2.6 percent during the period.
