Aug 6, 2008 (newstodate): Airbus has now landed its first firm order for conversion of A320 and A321 passenger aircraft into freighter versions.
Launch customer of the A320/321 P2F program is the Dutch leasing company AerCap ordering conversion of 30 aircraft.
Airbus anticipates about 400 Airbus Single Aisle aircraft to be converted from 2012 to 2026, and the first A320 P2F will be ready in 2011.
After ramp up, Airbus plans to convert around 30 A320 family aircraft per year in a JV with Russian aircraft manufacturer Irkut that is preparing a platform for P2F conversion to be located in Zhukovskij, the perspective centre of Russian aircraft industry.
The converted A320 aircraft will have the capacity to carry 10 maindeck AAA containers and three plus four lower deck AKH containers, and a converted A321 aircraft will take 13 maindeck AAA containers and five plus five lower deck AKH containers.
