Aug 6, 2008 (newstodate): An investment tender has been opened for the reconstruction of Kyrgyzstan's Issyk Kul Airport.
The current obsolete airport is a former Soviet military airfield, but land has now been allocated to build a new airport to replace the old facilities.
The current 2,000 m runway, taxiways and apron were built between 1975 and 1981, but a later modernisation project was closed down in 1982 due to lack of finances.
In 2003 a passenger terminal was added, as well as communmications and MET equipment.
