Aug 21, 2008 (newstodate): Earlier positioned as the favorite candidate to acquire the golden share in Serbia's JAT, Aeroflot has reportedly backed out from the tender.
The reason is, sources say, the spiraling fuel prices and the Serb carrier's increasing debt burden that makes it a less attractive investment, considering the financial demands from Aeroflot's own plans for expansion.
September 26 has been set as the closing date for applications to participate in the tender, with offers to be delivered till October 24, 2008.
Other carriers including Italy's Air One, Air India and Icelandair have reportedly also aired their interest in participating in the tender.
