Aug 8, 2008 (newstodate): In its latest Current Market Outlook 2008, Boeing foresees an annual growth in world's air cargo volumes at 5.8 percent over the next 20 years, downrated from the earlier estimates at 6.1 percent.
To realise this growth, the world will need its freighter fleet to increase from 1,948 to 3,892 aircraft.
This will require delivery of a total of 3,358 new freighters by 2027, taking into account the expected retirerement of 1,414 ageing freighters.
Of these new freighters, 863 will be production freighters, while another 2,495 freighters will be conversions from passenger aircraft.
More than 60 percent of the new freighters will be widebody aircraft and large freighters that will expand their share of the freighter fleets from 61 percent in 2008 to 65 percent by 2027.
