Aug 8, 2008 (newstodate): Acquisition of a Scandinavian ground handling company remains a hot topic on the agenda of Belgian ground handling group Aviapartner.
-Aviapartner is looking at the Scandinavian market as whole, said Heath White, the recently appointed coo Cargo Services in an interview with the Belgian transport and logistics paper De Lloyd.
-Several handling agents are involved in discussions. At this stage it is just looking at the market as a whole. Scandinavia is a difficult market, because it is very much controlled by Spirit. The question is what happens when the market opens up.
-In Scandinavia, we are looking at all opportunities. It isnt necessarily Spirit which is leading our way there. It is just out on the market. They certainly are the biggest player, said Mr White.
SAS Cargo's handling company Spirit has been up for sale, as has the cargo handling arm of Billund Airport, in western Denmark.
