Aug 6, 2008 (newstodate): Hungarian carrier Malev has decided to opt for acquisition of Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
Four ex-SAS Q400 aircraft will replace the carrier's CRJ and Fokker F70 aircraft on Malev's fleet when put into operation from later this year.
Earlier, Austrian Airlines acquired four ex-SAS Q400 aircraft, and the Swedish operator Nord-Flyg has taken two ex-SAS Q400 aircraft for conversion to freighters and reportedly signed up for a further three ex-SAS Q400, also slated for conversion to freighter aircraft.
In 2007 SAS grounded its entire fleet of 27 Bombardier Q400 aircraft following three incidents due to landing gear deficiencies.
