Aug 27, 2008 (newstodate): Albania's Tirana International Airport has signed a contract with Lufthansa Systems for implementation of the ELWIS cargo handling system.
The two parties have signed a four-year contract on ELWIS that will enable the Albanian airport to increase its efficiency and improve its customer service.
Tirana Airport is managed by Tirana International Airport, TIA, founded by HOCHTIEF AirPort, DEG, and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund with a concession to operate the airport for 20 years.
In 2007, the airport handled a total of 3,487 tonnes of cargo, compared to 2,110 tonnes in 2006.
On March 22, 2007, the airport opened a new cargo terminal with a capacity of handling 4,500 tonnes of cargo per year.
