Aug 12, 2008 (newstodate): Latvian carrier airBaltic expects to see its transit cargo traffic via Riga increasing in the years to come.
-Transit traffic via Riga should increase as we become better known in Europe and the busy winter season starts, says Toms Andersons, airBaltic Cargo head.
-I am confident that new destinations Amsterdam, served daily, and Dubai, served twice per week, will contribure to the growth as well.
-Of course, our many destinations in the East and in Central Asia including Moscow Sheremetyevo, Kiev, Odessa, Simferopol, Minsk and Baku will also in the slightly longer run help offset the current decrease in Latvian import and export cargo, and increase our transit cargo traffic.
-Our marketshare in Riga has for first time exceeded 52 percent in July, and in Vilnius, Lithuania, it is stable around 25 percent. Our network at Vilnius is, however, largely limited to European destinations and so transit opportunities are limited there, says Mr Andersons.
