Jul 3, 2008 (newstodate): The former Soviet military AFB Modlin, in central Poland, is being transformed into a commercial airport.
The modernisation works will be completed by 2010, and the airport is expected to attract low-cost operators currently using Warsaw Okecie Airport.
As Warsaw'ssecond international airport, Modlin will a new passenger terminal and fast rail and road connections to Warsaw, only 55 km away.
The master plan by UK consultants Stanley Associates also includes medium-size cargo facilities with direct access to railways and highways, and reserved sites for other potential industrial and semi-agricultural processing works.
