Jul 3, 2008 (newstodate): Aeroflot is pressing for the state to realise plans for construction of a third runway at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport.
The airport currently has two runways at 3,700 and 3,550 m, respectively, and plans have long been on the table for construction of a third runway.
The airport's second runway was opened after reconstruction works earlier this year, but traffic loads warrant expansion of the airport's operational capacity, according to Aeroflot.
In 2007 the airport handled 14.04 mio passengers, up 10 percent, y-o-y, and 117,044 tonnes of cargo, up 5.6 percent.
