Jun 11, 2008 (newstodate): Swedish provider of docking guidance systems, Safegate has landed a large order in the Indian market.
The Airports Authority of India has contracted Safegate to provide its Safedock® Type 3-9 advanced visual docking guidance systems for implementation at 17 airport around the country.
The systems will be implemented at the airport of Amritsar, Calicut, Dibrugarh, Gaya, Guwahati, Jaipur, Khajuraho, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Srinagar, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Varanasi and Vizag.
The project will be executed in various phases to meet the requirements of the local airports, with all systems expected to be operational by 2010.
The airports at Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Cochin are already using the Safedock A-VDGS.
The Indian market holds immense development potentials for civil aviation, including plans to develop six multi-modal international airport hubs, and the Indian civil aviation ministry has set a target of having 500 operational airports in the next 10 to 12 years, compared to today's total of 92 airports including 12 international airports.
For the past six years, India's air traffic has increased by 35 percent, y-o-y, against the global growth at nine percent.
