Jun 11, 2008 (newstodate): The Yekaterinburg-based carrier Ural Airlines saw its cargo and mail volumes rising significantly during January-May, 2008.
With a total of 2,243 tonnes handled, cargo volumes increased by 360.6 percent, y-o-y, while mail volumes at 261 tonnes were up 443.8 percent, y-o-y.
The carrier is building a fleet of western aircraft, including four Airbus A320 aircraft, to expand its capacity and replace its fleet of ageing Soviet-built aircraft.
In December, 2007, the carrier signed a contract with Airbus for acquisition of seven new Airbus A320 aircraft, with delivery of five units in 2012 and the remaining two by April, 2014.
