Jun 20, 2008 (newstodate): The Lithuanian carrier Aviavilsa is working hard to find more ATR freighter aircraft in the market.
-Right now it seems almost impossible to find ATR aircraft available, says Andreas Ponomoravas, Aviavilsa director.
-We need at least one more ATR-42-300F as a back up to our single ATR-42 freighter, but so far we have not succeeded in finding a solution, either in form of a freighter or a passenger aircraft to be converted into freighter.
-As an alternative we are also looking for ATR-72 aircraft for freighter use, but this is equally difficult.
-We would like to have up to three ATR freighers, in addition to our two AN-26 aircraft that are still in the process of evaluation by EASA for continued operations in the EU, says Mr Ponomoravas.
Aviavilsa operates scheduled freighter flights between Copenhagen, Denmark, and Vilnius, Lithuania, on behalf of DHL and SAS Cargo.
