Jun 17, 2008 (newstodate): Kosova's Prishtina International Airport is seeing strong growth in passenger traffic, but air cargo is lagging behind.
Passenger figures, totalling 1.1 mio in 2007, are up 21 percent during this year's Q1, and the volume of flight operations increased by 13 percent, y-o-y.
-Air cargo volumes are, however, insignificant due to the high costs of airfreight, says Skander Bucolli, Pristina International Airport spokesman.
-Kosova's customs demand full taxation of both goods and transportation together, and this makes airfreight less competitive against surface transportation where rates are low.
-We have made several attempts to change this, but so far to no avail. We will however strive to find ways to build up the airport's air cargo business as well, says Mr Bucolli.
