Jun 30, 2008 (newstodate): On June 27, 2008, the re-launched BAe 146QT made a successful first flight in Romania.
The aircraft was converted at Aerostars Bacau facility in Romania, and features a Large Freight Door as well as the installation of LFD hydraulic/electrical control systems and alignment/rigging of the eight locking latches and spools.
In parallel, work on the aircrafts E-class interior consisted of installing the 9G bulkhead, the Load Master seat, smoke detection systems and the Ancra Cargo Handling System, along with the final installation of freight bay liners.
BAE Systems gave the go-ahead for the re-launched BAe 146QT programme in January 2007, and following a detailed assessment of a number of candidate conversion facilities, announced in April that it had chosen Aerostar as its conversion partner.
Aerostar has nominated the Romanian aerospace company, Avioane Criaova to manufacture detailed parts including the Large Freight Door.
The BAe 146QT has a capacity of lifting 10-12 tonnes of cargo, aiming at filling the gap in the market between the eight tonnes of the larger turboprop freighters and the 15 tonnes of the Boeing 737 Classic freighter conversions.
