May 16, 2008 (newstodate): The government of Georgia has decided to invest in the upgrading of Kopitnari Airport at Kutaisi, Georgia's second-largset city.
Plans are that the refurbished airport will be commissioned by the end of 2009, and work has started in May, 2008, on construction of a new ATM tower and security systems.
In the plans are also reconstruction of the terminal and upgrading of the airport's 2,500 m runway.
The airport will be Georgia's third international airport, after Tblisi and Batumi.
