May 20, 2008 (newstodate): In contrast to e.g. Airbus' real-time broadcasted and televised first A380 flight, Russia's SuperJet 100's virgin flight on May 19 was kept a secret till after the succesful landing.
Sources claim the reason for the secrecy around the long-delayed first flight was fear of failure in public attention.
The next crucial step for Sukhoi's SuperJet 100 is meeting the delivery target for the first aircraft to Aeroflot that has ordered a total of 30 aircraft with options for a further batch of 15 aircraft.
The first aircraft was to be delivered to Aeroflot by November, 2008, but it is now expected to be delayed till "not earlier than 2009".
