May 16, 2008 (newstodate): The Russian government has pledged to cover about 76 million USD of the costs of reconstructing Ekaterinburg Koltsovo International Airport, in the Sverdlovsk industrial region.
Comprised by the masterplan that also includes the building of a new passenger terminal is the construction of a new large cargo terminal.
The airport's two runways will also be upgraded as part of the project.
One runway is to be extended by 500 m and installed with new navigational aids and runway lighting systems, and the other runway is also to be upgraded to allow for operations of aircraft up to the size of Boeing 747.
