May 19, 2008 (newstodate): Reconstruction of Russia's Kazan International Airport, in Tatarstan, will be completed by 2012.
The airport's annual passenger throughput will be increased 10-fold, to reach 4.5 mio passengers, the airport area will be expanded, and a new passenger facilities will be constructed.
In September 2007, Tatarstan opened a public international tender for management consultancy and reconstruction of Kazan International Airport, with a winning bid expected to be announced during this summer.
In 2007 the airport handled some 6,000 tonnes of cargo, up 46 percent, y-o-y.
