May 28, 2008 (newstodate): Sweden's Malmo Sturup Airport will soon fill the void in cargo uplift capacity left by Transmile that ceased freighter operations at the airport from January, 2008.
Newcomer to Malmo Sturup will be the Singapore-based privately-owned Jett8 Cargo Airlines from June 9, 2008, offering two weekly rotations with a Boeing 747-400ER freighter on a new wet-lease from Jade Cargo.
Jett8 Airlines Cargo will initially deploy the freighter on routes from Singapore to Amsterdam, Malmo, Bangalore, Chennai and Hong Kong.
-The exact routing of each flight will be flexible, determined by changing market demands, says Christian Berg, Malmo Airport marketing manager.
Jett8 Cargo Airlines' capacity out of Sweden will be marketed and sold by NordicGSA, while cargo handling at Malmo Sturup will be provided by Menzies.
In 2007 Malmo Sturup's cargo volumes grew by 58 percent to 60,102 tonnes, but the retreat from the airport by the Malaysian carrier Transmile's 1-2 weekly flights that generated some 20 percent of the airport's air cargo hit hard in this year's cargo statistics.
