May 26, 2008 (newstodate): Russia has organised a massive airbridge to bring disaster relief materials into the earthquake-stricken zones in China.
Over the weekend, Russia sent eight IL-76MD freighters from a military airbase in the Baikal region to China, carrying 250 tonnes of relief materials.
At the same time, an AN-124 freighter flew from a Moscow military airport to Chine with another 100 tonnes of relief shipments.
The current Russian relief operation comprises a total of 12 freighter flights to China, but more are being planned in a following stage.
