May 22, 2008 (newstodate): A tender process is now open for 20-year concessions to operate Macedonia's two main airports at Skopje and Ohrid.
The terms for concesssion to operate Skopje Alexander the Great Airport require the winner to undertake the extension of the 2,450 m runway by 500 m, installation of new ground navigation systems, and construction of a new cargo terminal.
In 2007 the airport handled 2,547 tonnes of cargo, up 11 percent, y-o-y.
The terms for concesssion to operate Ohrid St Paul the Apostle Airport call for the winner to reconstruct the cargo terminal, and set up new office buildings.
The winning company will also be required to take part in the construction from this autumn of a third airport intended for air cargo operations at Stip, the country's textile and fashions centre.
The Turkish company TAV, Austria's Vienna Airport, Germany's Hochtief and the French/UK Egis are known to be participating in the tender.
