May 9, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo was basically satisfied with its performance in the Nordic markets in 2007, but admits it was a difficult year.
-On a global scale, Lufthansa Cargo had a good year, despite the many challenges including rising surcharges, spiralling fuel costs and volatile exhange rates, says Kay Wichmann, Lufthansa Cargo Nordics.
-In the Nordic markets we also performed quite well, but we did not meet all targets. At the end of the day we were much affected by increasing competition and strong pressure on rates, which hit all players in the market.
-The year 2008 opened with a positive growth in January and February, but traffic volumes dropped below last year in March, due to the early Easter.
-Usually we see a build-up in March and April towards a peak around Easter. This year the peak came late, and lasted shorter than usually.
-So after the first months of 2008 we see ever increasing competition in the Nordic markets, and that is admittedly worrying us, says Mr Wichmann.
