May 29, 2008 (newstodate): The Baltic airfreight markets are rather small, but developing guite significantly.
-Lufthansa Cargo grew faster than the Baltic markets, and while they are still fairly small they represent attractive future growth potentials, says Kay Wichmann, Lufthansa Cargo general manager Nordic.
-On the other hand we face quite stiff competition from local carriers in the Baltic markets. Our biggest challenge remains, however, to gain enough volume to render the Baltic cargo operations profitable.
-Also adding to the challenge is the lack so far of reliable and comprehensive market information, This will improve with CASS that is not, however, fully in place, says Mr Wichmann.
