May 30, 2008 (newstodate): The Icelandic carrier Bluebird Cargo has signed a lease agreement for one additional Boeing 737-400SF freighter, to be delivered by the end of the year.
The new freighter will undergo conversion by IAI as this provider's first B737-400SF conversion.
The company, based at Keflavik Airport and set up in 2001 and managed by Thor Kjartansson who passed away in November, 2007, currently operates a fleet comprising two Boeing 737-300 converted freighers and two Boeing 737-400SF freighters.
Now headed by Skuli Skulasson and since August, 2005, a company in the Icelandair Group, Bluebird Cargo operates for integrators including TNT on routes between Europe and Iceland, as well as on intra-European integrator networks.
