May 13, 2008 (newstodate): The recent Icelandair Group decision to cancel the acquisition of four Airbus A330-200F freighters became the crucial driver behind Icelandair Cargo managing director, Petur J Eiriksson's decision to resign.
-It has been a great pleasure to start up Icelandair Cargo and develop the company to its present status in the air cargo world. The recent decision of the board of our mother company, Icelandair Group, to withdraw its approval of the lease and purchase of four Airbus A330 freighters was, however, a turning point for me, says Petur J Eiriksson in a statement.
-From the point of view of Icelandair Group, I fully understand the decision, but I think this is a moment for another managing director to take over and form a new strategy.
Mr Eiriksson led the company from its foundation in 2000, but has worked for Icelandair Group and Flugleidir for 26 years.
After leaving his position by the end of May, 2008, he will take a seat on the board of Icelandair Cargo.
