May 30, 2008 (newstodate): Georgian National Airlines has signed a contract to acquire three DC-9 and one MD-80 aircraft.
The first DC-9 aircraft is now ready for operaiotnal use by the airline, a second will arrive in July and the third at the end of this summer, while the fourth aircraft will follow later in the autumn.
In contrast to earlier acquisitions, these aircraft are bought, and not leased, by the company.
The carrier, based at Tblisi International Airport, plans to expand its aircraft fleet to a total of eight to ten units over the next few years, while the current fleet only comprises one CRJ-200ER and one IL-76 cargo aircraft.
