May 27, 2008 (newstodate): Georgia's Ministry of Economic Development is soon to open an international tender for construction of the planned new Kopitnari Airport at Kutaisi.
Already work has started on the construction of the new airport's 45m high ATC tower, to be fully implemented with new equipment within 18 months.
Work on the airport's 2,500 m runway has also been launched.
The airport is slated for commissioning by the end of 2009.
Plans are to develop Kopitnari International Airport, near Kutaisi, into a regional logistics centre as well as an cargo airline hub
