May 23, 2008 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport is seeing a strong growth in air cargo volumes in 2008.
In April the airport handled a total of 3,956 tonnes of cargo, up 230 percent, y-o-y.
The growth was driven by sustained high loads of imports, up 256 percent to 3,709 tonnes, but exports were also increasing by 85.5 percent to 164 tonnes.
The driver remained incoming loads by freighters from China primarily via Istanbul, destined for the Russian market.
Thus, freighters brought in 3,448 tonnes of cargo in April 2008, against 777 tonnes in April, 2007 - an increase by 343 percent.
