May 19, 2008 (newstodate): A two-year delay in delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft has forced the Polish carrier LOT to postpone its planned expansion into the Far East.
In 2005, LOT ordered eight Boeing 787 with delivery deadline comprising four aircraft by the end of 2008, followed by one in 2009 and finally three in 2010, with a purchase option for eight aircraft in the following years.
After Boeing's latest revision of the 787 program, LOT will receive its first five Dreamliner aircraft by 2010, forcing the carrier to postpone its planned Far Eastern expansion till then.
As of June 6, LOT consequently suspends flights along the route between Warsaw and Beijing, served with Boeing 767-300 aircraft that do not, however, enable LOT to attain a profitable operation.
