May 19, 2008 (newstodate): The Chinese privately-owned carrier Hainan Airlines plans to start operations to destinations in Eastern Europe and Russia.
From June 19, 2008, the carrier plans to operate two weekly flights between Beijing and Kiev, Ukraine, using Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
Also being planned for 2008 or 2009 are five weekly services between Beijing and Krasnoyarsk, Russia, with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, pending granting of traffic rights.
Hainan Airlines already operates flights to Budapest, Hungary, and plans for a new route to Berlin from September 5, 2008.
